About The Founding Fathers Concept
John Hancock Barbershop’s founder, Grant Quezada, his business partner, Jesse Burke, are creating a multi-dimensional haven for Prescott’s men that includes a hi-tech coffee house, a speakeasy featuring premium craft beers and self-pouring technology, and finally, a dapper retail store offering up cutting-edge apparel for both the professional and casual man.
It all started when Grant returned home after serving 8 years in the United States Army. Quezada realized there weren’t many places in Prescott for him to “just be a man.” He missed the comradery and community the military provided. After sharing his struggles with others, he found that he wasn’t the only one longing for community. Guys from all walks of life and cultures were looking for a safe place to let down their guard a bit and just be themselves. Drawing on his history in the hair industry Grant decided to open John Hancock Barbershop in 2014.
The dream was to build Northern Arizona’s premier barbershop offering men “a signature experience.” The shop was to provide much more than a haircut but instead beckon back to the barbershops of old by becoming a community gathering point. With its modern rustic design, men are offered a beer, whisky, or coffee, welcomed by friendly and engaging conversation, and then invited to slow down and enjoy quality full-service haircuts and straight razor shaves.
The shop in its current location has reached its capacity and the need to relocate has come. As this move is made, John Hancock Barbershop is expanding its services and taking this opportunity to repositioning its brand for future growth. With the purchase of a 9445 square-foot building in the heart of the entertainment district in historic downtown Prescott, Grant and Jesse are opening the doors to their new business venture, the Founding Fathers— a multi-dimensional business concept designed for the modern man. In this space they plan on expanding and growing the business on three fronts:
Expanded Barbershop – The first and most obvious expansion is needed for the barbershop itself. The new shop will open with 10 chairs and will have the space and plumbing designed in for additional chairs as they are needed. Beyond the additional chairs the new location will also include an Executive Barbering Suite. This room will host two chairs and will be used to capitalize on several newer and growing services.
Expanded Community Space – As the brand and shop have grown, the team has discovered that it is not only men who are looking for a space to let down their guard and enjoy connecting to others in community. Wives come in and enjoy coffee with each other while their husbands get their hair cut. Dates drink beer while they attend a UFC fight night. And friends sip whisky during one of the many bachelor parties that have made John Hancock Barbershop the starting point for their night of fun. In the new building, an expanded space with updated design will be offered to our community of customers and friends who simply want to enjoy the John Hancock Barbershop culture.
Expanded Customer Experiences – In the new community space, the company will also be expanding its scope of services by building each of John Hancock Barbershop’s perks (coffee, alcohol, and retail) into their own brand:
Merchants’ Coffee House
This isn’t your average coffee house. It’s an awesome blend of top-tier coffee beans that change daily, combined with the technology you only see on the silver screen. Pick your coffee bean from the daily selection, choose how you’d like your coffee brewed (yes, there are four options!), and your Bluetooth controlled kettle will be hot and ready by the time you get to your table.
City Tavern is going to be your new favorite gathering spot. It’s Prescott’s first speakeasy that gives you total freedom to pour your own brews. Choose from a wide selection of the best craft beers carefully picked by brewery masters. Unwind from a hectic day on the patio and listen to the babbling creek. Grab your laptop for an afternoon getaway to your new “office.” Enjoy a quick beer after a long day.
Haberdashery is going to be the spot for the men of Prescott to step up their look. Everything from casual t-shirts and pants to one-of-a-kind pieces are going to be up for grabs at the new cutting-edge shop.
Founding Fathers is the combined dream of two childhood friends, Grant Quezada and Jesse Burke. After moving away, building their families and careers, they found themselves back in their hometown four years ago. Founding Fathers has grown out a belief that through their combined passions, skills, and resources they have something great to offer their community.
